Praha - the City of a Hundred Spires, and Beer!
Getting up at 3am can only mean one thing….
…..Hello Prague!
We flew via London to Prague, using one of the BA companion vouchers. The flight was reasonably smooth, apart from the crazy taxi drivers at either side of the journey. Damien, our driver in Edinburgh, loved to undertake, and when the city bypass was closed at Straiton, he took that as a sign to rally us around the Mortonhall and various other place's before we could rejoin the road. The Uber driver in Prague, seemed pretty much the same.
We eventually made it to the Art Nouveau Palace hotel, a 5 star hotel a short walk from the old town. We had a couple of hours to kill, but given we were up so early, decided to take a nap. An hour later, and we were preparing to go to a spa, but not any old spa, a beer spa!
The walk to the Michelangelo hotel was just over 10 mins, and on arrival, we were told, “pour yourself a beer!” We did as we were told!
We sat for a few minutes before being called to the room; there were two whirlpool baths and a wheat straw bed. The lady showed us the contents of the tubs, you’ll never guess? Beer, hops and brewers yeast! We also had access to two beer taps each, one with a lager and the other a dark beer, as well as some beer bread. The water was boiling, but once you got used to it, you could feel all your pores opening. The heat also encouraged consumption of beer, I’m pretty sure we managed 8 pints between us in an hour!
The spa was amazing and I thoroughly recommend! We merrily sauntered back to the hotel to dump our wet swimwear and head out for some food, although I wasn’t particularly hungry. Iain was desperate for a pizza so we stopped at the first one we found in the old town. There were heaters outside on a patio so even though it was 3 degrees, it was lovely and warm. Iain ordered a margarita which was excellent and I had a carbonara, it was good but I wish I had went with pizza!
It wasn’t late, but we decided to call it a night, we wanted to be fresh for our first full day in the city.
