Homeward Bound
This is always the worst part of a trip, hanging about, waiting
for a flight to take you back to reality.
We were awake reasonably early as we had to pack up our suitcases
and vacate the hotel by 12 noon. I wanted to have a look around Macy’s as every
time I am in North America, there seems to be a sale and some bargains to be
had.
Firstly, we decided to go for some breakfast at a family run place
called Sunny Side Up & Coffee Shoppe. I was between original Eggs Benedict and stuffed French toast so
you can guess what I went for. After a coffee, and two slabs of French toast
slammed together with whipped cream, berries and raspberry sauce, I was done.
Unfortunately, Macy's paid the price as I couldn’t physically be bothered
looking at anything.
We headed back to the hotel, and after stocking up on a few souvenirs, we booked an Uber to the airport. We checked the price earlier in the
morning, but because of the rain, there was a surge in price. Still, my case
was heavy, and it was raining, so we took the hit.
I never thought I would say this, but Edinburgh Airport is
actually pretty good! Our check-in at O'Hare was fine but there was no ‘real’ business
class queue to clear security and the lounge was so packed, we couldn't get a table. Thankfully a flight to Hong Kong was called so we eventually managed to get a decent seat, and by default, a wine.
We hung out in the lounge, only moving once our flight was called
at 4.15pm. Another benefit of business class is boarding early, especially when you get a glass of champagne before take-off. Before you ask, I’ve already warned
Iain that I’m only flying business class from now on; well in my dreams, and if we
win the lottery!
The flight back to London was much better than the outbound
flight; I managed a few bucks fizzes before I eventually
shut my eyes. After a 3 course meal, and breakfast on the plane, we arrived in London in just over 7 hours. We had a 2 hour wait for our next flight, so we were not exactly rushed; again, we headed to the South Lounge to bide our time.
Unfortunately, our flight was on time which means....back to work tomorrow!
