Homeward Bound

Our flight home wasn't until late so we decided to spend as long as possible in Epernay.

We had a leisurely breakfast in the hotel, before checking out at noon. Our baggage was super heavy so we left it with reception and went on our way.

First stop Champagne Perrier-Jouet - they definitely had the most beautiful glasses on the Avenue. It was also around 30 degrees again, so we huddled under an umbrella in the garden trying to decide what else to do for the rest of the day.

Given that we still had to get home, we thought we better take it easy on the Champagne so decided to go to the Museum of Champagne Wine and Regional Archaeology. The museum is based in Château Perrier, a historic monument and former home of champagne merchants. It was actually really interesting and we learned a few more bits about making Champagne, maybe we could attempt Scottish Sparkling Wine?

We had time for one last glass, so decided to go back to Champagne Elodie D. I say one glass, but i think it was more like three! Plus it was really comfortable.

Unfortunately, it was time to go home - we got a taxi to the train station and jumped on the train to Paris Gare de l'Est. We had plenty of time to get to the Gare du Nord, the only problem was the Tour de France had just finished so the city was mental! We made it onto the train even though it was packed, and we started to relax.

Big Mistake!

We were walking to departures when Iain realised my bag was open; my bottle of water was gone and so was my phone! I was livid! Iain could track my phone and it was already on its way back to Paris; thankfully he could wipe it remotely and we changed the passwords that were important. I called EE and reported it stolen while we were waiting in the baggage queue.

If you have ever been to Charles de Gaulle, you will know the airport is a nightmare. We queued for at least an hour to put our baggage in; that's when the second thing went wrong! Apparently, the baggage belt was broken so we were to leave our luggage by the side of the check-in desks. I was getting more and more annoyed, but we had no other choice; I think you can tell I'm seriously unimpressed!

We eventually got back to Edinburgh and wondered if our baggage was going to appear - you guessed it, it was still in Paris (in the airport somewhere!). I was more worried about the bottles of Champagne we had carefully packed! I was told to fill out a form and they would eventually get our baggage to us, so we went home and waited....Well, I waited while Iain was in bed with Covid!

Two weeks later and our bags finally appeared, all intact! And more importantly, all the Champagne made it too.
