Wherever next...
But first, we needed to get home!
We landed back in a very rainy Glasgow; it was already 11pm, we were shattered and I was sober! It took 30 minutes or so to collect our luggage and get to the car park. Now the drive home should have been reasonably easy, but after two detours off the M8, a detour off the Edinburgh City Bypass and what appeared to be Noah's flood, we eventually arrived back at 1am.
After repacking, and sleeping for about 1.5 hours, it was time to get up again. The taxi arrived at 4.30am and drove us to Edinburgh Airport; we walked straight through fast track security and directly to the BA Lounge where we had a croissant (or two!) and a latte. It felt a little too early for Champagne, but that was to come.
First stop London Heathrow, final stop Sofia, Bulgaria!
The flight was good, but we were knackered and spent most of it sleeping; we did manage a Champagne or two though. I have never been to Bulgaria before, so thought it wise to pre-book a taxi to take us to our hotel in the city centre. Our driver, Ivan, was ready and waiting with a sign; he was super young and alarmingly, the first thing he said to us was "why did you bother to come to Sofia?"
After laughing it off, and explaining to him that we had heard Sofia was beautiful, he decided to give us a mini tour on the way to the hotel. It took us around 20 minutes to reach Les Fleurs Boutique Hotel, and our home for the next 3 nights.
The hotel was beautiful, but we didn't have too much time to relax as we needed to find Tempus Vini, a wine shop where we were due to have a wine and cheese tasting. It was only a 5 minute walk to the shop, and since we were a bit early we stopped by a bar across the road for a quick beer.
The Wine shop was definitely not what I expected, but the tasting was fabulous! We had 5 Bulgarian wines made from grapes that I hadn't really heard of, but they were delicious, especially a red wine called "Mini mum". All the wines were paired with local cheeses and olives; we left full and slightly drunken and with a bottle of wine to drink in our hotel room.
Since we literally had no sleep the previous night, we walked back to the hotel via a little convenience store and spent the evening planning the next few days and enjoying some more wine and beer. I think we lasted until 10pm, before conking out.
