It was that time again, although our Wizz Air flight back to Edinburgh wasn't until 7.35pm.
After checking out of the hotel, and leaving our luggage with reception, we found a restaurant serving breakfast and in particular, pancakes!
It was noon when we finished breakfast, and it was sweltering already.
There were still a few things on our to-do list, so what better than climbing the tower of St. Mary's Church in 30 degrees. The tower is 82 metres and there are 409 steps to climb; I was boiling when I got to the top, and it was really busy so we didn't hang about. The view was ok, but I won't be doing it again.
Actually, walking down was much worse and I could feel my legs shaking involuntarily. Iain also needed a pick-me-up, so we popped into a convenience store on the way to our next stop. Black energy is just like red bull, but its the leader in the Polish market.
Our next stop was the WWII Museum in Gdansk; as you now know, the first shots of the war were on Westerplatte and at the Post Office, so it makes perfect sense to have the largest WWII Museum in Europe located here. This museum is incredibly detailed and uses all sorts of interactive exhibits to share the history and stories from the war. We spent 2 hours walking around the exhibits, but we could easily have spent more. I would thoroughly recommend a visit if you are in the area.
We only had a few hours left, and decided a beer and some more food might be in order. The place we chose had just opened that week, but its fair to say we haven't had a bad meal in Poland.
It was now time to walk back to the hotel, as we had a taxi booked to take us to the airport; maybe its just us, but every taxi we get abroad, we are always delighted to make it to our destination in one piece.
We waited 20 minutes for the check-in desk to open, and even though we had Wizz Air Priority, there was absolutely no point in having it as we seemed to be ignored. We eventually got through security, and at least the flight was on time. The flight was reasonable, but it certainly wasn't cheap, especially after all the add-ons were included. We arrived back into Edinburgh, it was pouring and cold. The bus to the car park didn't take long so we were back at the car in no time. At least we arrived into Edinburgh so it was just a short drive home and the end of a fabulous holiday.
The question now is where next?
