Games on the train....

September 3rd 2017

We had a long lie in this morning; there is nothing much to get up for. We both wake up a bit sniffly too; think its the air con.

The scenery is getting a bit dull too, just field after field, then some trees! We pack away our beds then sit down to a breakfast of tea, coffee, the last of the Mongolian croissants and you guessed it, noodles!

There isn't a stop for a few hours so I finish the book I've been reading. Our next stop is Mariinsk at 2pm local time; there is a few sellers on the platforms so we go buy some sprite, coke and a couple of ice creams. It is nice to be out in the sun, its actually 22 degrees, not what you associate with Siberia!

After a 20 minute stop-over, we jump back on the train and decide to get our travel games out. We start with Ludo (Iain won), then chess. I have never played it before so Iain is determined to teach me. After 30 minutes and losing again (I'm not a good loser!), we give up. There is also snakes and ladders, probably more my level, but we decide to open the crisps instead!

It's weird having no internet and not being able to google random things.....This is a taster of life without it!

I have started to read Outlander, it is not what I imagined so far but i am enjoying it. After an hour or so, its time for a nap! I wake up as we stop at Novosibirsk; it is the capital of Western Siberia and the station is quite beautiful. Iain appears to have devoured half of the remaining whisky and is blabbing; make it stop! He also seems to think the making of whisky is a metaphor for life.......yep, I have no idea either!

We go to the platform shop to get some beers and see if there is anything for dinner; we got some strange hot dog type things which were a nice change from the noodles!

After eating them, we play snakes and ladders, best of five; I win! Told you it was my level! We then have another game of Ludo; I'm convinced Iain has a dodgy dice as he keeps throwing a six, time for a tantrum. Best stick to beer, blogging, reading and sudoku!

Unfortunately, we only have Iain's music to listen to; currently, it's manic street preachers, generation terrorist! Where is Agiimaa, our Mongolian guide, with the UK Top 40, when you need her?

Time seems to be disappearing, or else I'm drunk! It appears to be time for bed again....night night!
