Good Morning Lake Baikal

September 2nd 2017

I had a great sleep; not sure if it was the whisky or if I was just so tired!

It is now 10am; at least we think it is. All trains run on Moscow time which is really confusing for trying to work out the local time; we think we are GMT+5. Anyway, we have just woken up so its time for a quick wash and breakfast! There is no shower anywhere near us, plus you have to pay a small fee for it, so we use wet wipes and dry shampoo! We then take our flask to the provodnitsa to fill with hot water and make ourselves a cup of tea. We also have some bun type things which are a cross between croissants and cinnamon buns; we bought these in Mongolia and they are the perfect accompaniment to tea or coffee!

As we are having breakfast, the train is trundling along the side of Lake Baikal. It is the largest lake in the world and absolutely stunning! We take lots of pictures in the hope that one comes out well; unfortunately, the cabin windows are not the cleanest and the reflection is terrrible! But here are a couple....

It's now 1pm and we are stopped at Slyudyanka for 10 minutes; we get off the train for some fresh air and end up talking to an Australian and a Mongolian. It turns out we are slightly delayed, only about 20 minutes though. Our next stop is Irkutsk so I am hoping to buy some "healthy" food; my body is not looking forward to more noodles.....
