Birthday Dinner
It took us 10 minutes to walk to the Sheraton hotel; we were shown to level 23 and the Signature Restaurant. It is famous for the views of the city and steak. As it was Iain’s birthday, I asked for a window seat which they had happily reconfirmed via phone earlier in the day. We had looked at the menu earlier so we pretty much knew what we were having; I had the Signature prawn cocktail and Iain a salmon Caesar salad as a starter; both were beautiful, particularly the presentation of mine and the weird marshmallow thing that Iain had with his. We also had salmon ceviche, served on a traditional Asian soup spoon, before that and 4 different kinds of bread with salted butter. The main course was Australian Wagyu Tenderloin served with morning glory, fries and onion rings; wow, the steak was delicious! We were debating dessert as we were pretty full but in the end had no choice; they brought out a whole birthday cake, made of chocolate and with a candle! We did our best to eat it but they did box it so we could take it away! I think this is the biggest bill I have ever had to pay, almost 6 million Dong!

There is also a sky bar at the Sheraton so we decided to stop for a drink before we wandered home. Instead of wandering, we waddled back to the hotel. As we got into the room, we noticed another cake, this time a tiramisu with “Happy Birthday Mr Black” and a hand written note.....we couldn’t face anything else so stuck it in the fridge intent on having it for breakfast!

Happy Birthday Iain...no more cake, please!
