Keemala, Kamala Beach then Home to Bonnie Scotland!
Our clay pool villa was lovely; we had a huge bathroom and bedroom which were separated by a foyer. There was a balcony and a little private pool to the side of the villa. It sounds absolutely luxurious, but actually the sun only hit the balcony in the afternoon and the pool separately first thing in the morning, which was a bit annoying.

We ended up going to the pool as it had the sun all day and a happy hour between 2pm and 5pm. The hotel was pretty expensive, £10 for a small glass of wine and around the same for a cocktail; the food was equally expensive but there was a free shuttle to Kamala Beach so we ate there most nights. We also spent a couple of days on the beach as it was so easy to rent a sun lounger and towel plus the sea was roasting..

As we were a honeymoon couple, we did get a free meal at the hotel, drinks not included of course. It was beautiful but no better than some of the restaurants we tried down by the beach.

Our last day in Keemala was a bit of a pain as we had to check out our room at noon and our flight wasn’t until 2am the following morning; we couldn’t even extend it as the hotel was fully booked, or so we were told. We managed a day sunbathing by the pool followed by dinnner along the beach; it was 8pm when we returned to the hotel; we were ushered to the spa area where we could shower before settling our bill. It all seemed a bit of an annoyance to them and although the hotel was nice, I don’t think I’ll be recommending it. We sat in the air-conditioned library for the next few hours before EXO Thailand picked us up to transfer us to the airport.

I trolled through tripadvisor as I was determined to have some BBQ seafood on Valentine’s Day. We eventually found a place called “Hey Ha” which was recommended and the lobster looked amazing. We also got an amazing view of the sunset and as it was Valentine’s Day, I got a free cocktail. We had chicken satay to start, then I had lobster (I got to choose which one I wanted and named him Bob!) with green papaya salad and fries while Iain had an Australian steak.
The following evening, and after a day at the beach, I had BBQ prawns and BBQ crab at a lovely little restaurant just off the main road. The only downside was the bathroom, which was shared and down the side of the building; there was at least one cockroach in the ladies! Thankfully, I had eaten before venturing to the toilet!

Thankfully, we could check in early and get settled in departures. We didn’t get an upgrade this time and we were exhausted, so didn’t even bother a lounge. Turns out there are not many seats available at Phuket Airport so you have to buy something to get a seat anywhere. Luckily, our flight to Dubai was on-time, albeit a bit turbulent, but I slept through most of it.
We had a 3 hour layover in Dubai, deciding to go to McDonalds and end the honeymoon in typical foodie fashion! Sometimes, at 6am, you just need french fries and a cup of tea...Our final flight of the holiday was an 8 hour hop to Edinburgh; never have I wished to be upgraded so much and never before have I ever had to ask to change seats; wow, this guy could snore plus his daughters feet on the chair next to me was not pleasant! Anyways, we were moved and my now thumping headache seems to be subsiding. Only 6 hours to go, a taxi ride, then home sweet home!
